When I was expecting Joe, I made a blanket for him with some material that was given to me. It was blue with stars and stripes and to tie the layers together I used red yarn.....it turned out to look like a patriotic tribute to the American Flag. I did not plan to raise a military son, it just happened along the way. When he was a young boy he would talk about wanting to join the military, and then as a teen he would dress up in army clothes, running around the yard with face paint on saving the world from evil enemies. We watched hours of youtube videos, and dvd's about military training and operations. So when he left home and joined the United States Army it was no surprise.
What a young man can accomplish when all odds are stacked against him is amazing. Joe has been to Afghanistan twice, and has seen things no young man should ever have to see. He has said goodbye to friends who have fallen to combat and he himself has been the target of enemy fire. While we are safe at home he has been hunkered down dodging bullets. While we laze about, he has been without sleep or food for long periods at a time fighting for others freedoms. He may not have gone to college, he may not be a doctor or lawyer....but....
My son has become an Airborne, United States Army Ranger..........
I am very proud of him!!
HOOAH!
