Decorating is something that I really enjoy. I can appreciate many different styles; romantic, eclectic, victorian, cottage, country, rustic, etc. Our little house here in Calgary has such potential and I've had a couple years now to figure out how to arrange furniture, where to put the dining room table, how long the curtains should be and what colors I would like to use in my decor. I really don't know how to define my "style"...but I can show you the pictures that inspired me. They are not from Country Living, or from Home, or even from one of the hundreds of decorating books at the library. These pictures are from a craft book, a Christmas Craft book to be specific.
When I saw the combination of colors I immediately knew that I had found a reference point to help guide me in going forward with decorating our house.
Once I saw these pages, it opened my eyes and I started seeing these color combinations in other books and magazines.
What a delightful combination of Shabby Chic, Cottage & Country!
I don't know about you, but I can picture myself sitting at that little table drinking coffee and soaking in the sun that is filtering through the windows. Just enough reds, creams, natural wood, light blue and yellows.
If you look very closely, you will see that the dining room curtains in this book are made out of the very same fabric that I had a valance made from that hangs over my kitchen window. Granted this dining room is a tad too fancy for me, but its really about the colors...
So, now that I have been inspired, I just need to get started. Will need to pay
close attention to these colors as I go re-sale shopping and out looking at garage sales.
My eye has been trained, now I just need the cash to make it happen, and since its been proven that cash is scarce lately, this is likely to be a lengthy process...but no matter....I'll enjoy it none the less.
